What is an Antiseptic?
An antiseptic is an antimicrobial, and it is NOT a disinfectant. Antiseptics function quite differently in the human body to antibiotics. They kill bacteria topically and internally. Hippocrates, the father of medicine, used oregano as an antiseptic.
Scientist W. H. Martindale (ref. Lister's mouthwash and listerine) documented that the essential oil of oregano is the most powerful plant-derived antiseptic known and showed it was tens times more active as an antiseptic than phenol, a powerful disinfectant. Nature's synergism in oregano oil is the reason why it is so effective as an antiseptic.
Quote from "The Cure is in The Cupboard" by Dr Cass Ingram:
Oil of wild oregano is the premier natural antiseptic. It posesses vast microbial-killing powers. Every microbe against which it has been tested succumbs to it. Uniquely, there is no known tendency for microbial resistance. It is the premier of all known natural antiseptics. It is such an effective antiseptic that it cannot be matched either in the synthetic or natural arena in terms of its ability to kill a wide range of microbes.
